Vegan Pakora

Vegan Pakora

 

Our pakora & onion bhaji mixes are gluten free AND vegan.

Other varieties of vegetables and/or meat alternatives can be used such as cauliflower, spinach squash.

Onion Bhajis:

  1. Mix together 280g finely sliced onion with 50g Tongmaster onion bhaji mix, 60ml cold water and a squirt of lemon juice.
  2. Heat oil or low cal alternative in a deep fryer or frying pan and heat to around 180°C (if deep frying, a drop of batter should sizzle as it hits the oil then float)
  3. Take one tablespoon of the mixture and carefully place into the pan (or submerge into oil depending on cooking method) using another spoon.
  4. Fry for 5-6 minutes, turning halfway, or until crisp and deep golden brown.
  5. Drain on kitchen paper and serve with a warm mint dip (mix mint with plain soya yoghurt).

Vegetable pakora:

  1. Thinly slice 1 medium onion and peel, grate and/or finely dice 3 medium sized potatoes.
  2. Add pakora mix to a bowl and gradually add water until a thick batter is formed.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or frying pan to around 180 degrees. (At the correct temp a drop of batter should sizzle as it hits the oil, then float).
  4. Take one tablespoon of the mixture and carefully submerge into oil using another spoon.
  5. Fry for 5-6 minutes, or until crisp and deep golden brown and vegetables are soft.

Mushroom pakora:

  1. Wash and prepare 300g button mushrooms and/or chop large mushrooms.
  2. Add pakora mix to a bowl and gradually add water until a thick batter is created, mix in ingredients until well coated.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or frying pan to around 180 degrees. (At the correct temp a drop of batter should sizzle as it hits the oil, then float).
  4. Take one tablespoon of the mixture and carefully submerge into oil using another spoon.
  5. Fry for 5-6 minutes, or until crisp and deep golden brown and chicken is cooked through.

‘Chicken’ Pakora:

  1. Cut 300g quorn pieces into bitesized pieces.
  2. Add pakora mix to a bowl and gradually add water until a thick batter is created, mix in ingredients until well coated.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or frying pan to around 180 degrees. (At the correct temp a drop of batter should sizzle as it hits the oil, then float).
  4. Take one tablespoon of the mixture and carefully submerge into oil using another spoon.
  5. Fry for 5-6 minutes, or until crisp and deep golden brown.
